Western Isles residents are invited to comment on a ‘Main Issues Report “(MIR) by Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar as part of the preparation for a new Local Development Plan (LDP.

The LDP will guide development and land use in the Outer Hebrides over the next 10-20 years.

The Comhairle says it is now mid-way through the consultation period, which closes on Friday 26th February, and invites the public to comment and help shape the future development of the Outer Hebrides.

In November 2012 the Comhairle adopted the first LDP as part of the Development Plan to guide development in the Outer Hebrides. The Plan is the Comhairle’s view on the future use of land and all planning decisions will be made in accordance with it, unless material planning considerations indicate otherwise.

The Comhairle has a duty to keep this Development Plan under review and has initiated the preparation of a new LDP. The Main Issues Report (MIR) is a key consultation stage in the review, and represents a critical opportunity for engagement.

The MIR sets out the ‘main issues’ that require to be addressed or revisited in preparing the new Plan.

The Comhairle says the MIR should not be viewed as a ‘draft Proposed Plan’ as it is intended to stimulate discussion on the broad approaches the Plan could take. It concentrates on the key issues that have emerged since the Plan was approved and the Comhairle proposals for addressing them. It provides a series of strategy choices and identifies potential proposal sites, for which the public’s views are sought
